About

A note from the person behind the site

I retired from teaching. I didn’t retire from wanting to help.

For 24 years, I taught school. What I miss most isn’t the paperwork or the early mornings. It’s being able to help someone who has a question and watching things finally make sense.

So I’ve been trying something new in retirement: building free little tools that help people make decisions. Sometimes the question is silly, like how old we’d be on Mars. Other times it’s something as ordinary (and surprisingly frustrating) as finding a dish rack that won’t rust.

A lot of the best ideas start with a real person asking a real question. If I see something I think I can help with, I try to make a calculator or guide that makes the answer a bit easier to find.

This keeps my mind busy, gives me another way to be useful, and, I hope, can earn a little extra retirement income along the way. That’s the honest reason this site exists.

What you’ll find here

I try to keep the questions simple, explain the answers in plain English, and give you enough detail to make up your own mind. A cheaper item isn’t always the right one. Neither is the most expensive.

Some results are estimates based on what you enter, not promises. When a purchase depends on exact measurements, safety, or a warranty, please check the maker’s specifications before buying. I don’t pretend I’ve personally tested every product.

How this site pays its way

Some buying guides include affiliate links. If you use one and make a qualifying purchase, I may earn a small commission. The tools are free, and I’d rather help you find the right thing than talk you into something you don’t need.

If you spot something confusing or have a question that deserves a calculator of its own, that’s exactly the kind of thing I enjoy working on.
